BACOLOD City – The city-funded burial assistance will be increased from P1,500 to P3,500.
This after the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on March 7 on its final reading an ordinance amending City Ordinance (CO) No. 384 series of 2005, or “An Ordinance Establishing the Burial Financial Assistance Program for Paupers in the City of Bacolod and Providing Funds Therefor.”
Ordinance proponent Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. said the amendments included changing the P1,500 burial assistance to P3,500 stated in Section 9 and making the general fund P7 million from P300,000 stated in Section 12 of CO No. 384.
Gamboa authored the ordinance after receiving complaints from some residents saying the amount of burial assistance given to them were not uniform – some received P3,000 while others, P4,000 or more than P5,000.
This is due to the executive department’s discretion over the burial assistance, Gamboa said.
Gamboa hopes that the newly approved amendments will settle the issue. Uniform amount of burial assistance will now be distributed among qualified residents, he stressed.
Amending CO No. 384 is the SP’s response to the needs of Bacolodnons, Gamboa added./PN
