ILOILO – The P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) Stage II will be completed in 46 months, the provincial government was told.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. already received the Notice of Award from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), according to the capitol.
Park Seon Won, representative of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., visited Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. on March 7 to inform him of the development. He was accompanied by Mayor Alex Centena of Calinog where the dam wound be built.
Park told Defensor they were now preparing the necessary documents and that they were planning to hold the groundbreaking ceremony this May.
He said they have 46 months to build the mega dam.
Defensor welcomed the news. Ilonggos have long been waiting for the start of the project, he said.
JRMP II was pushed by Senate President Franklin Drilon during the time of President Benigno Aquino III.
Soon to be the biggest dam outside of Luzon, the JRMP II will provide year-round irrigation to 22,340 hectares under five existing irrigation systems and 9,500 hectares of new irrigation area covering 33 municipalities in the province.
It also has the capacity to generate 6.6 megawatts hydro-electric power and around 86,400 cubic meters per day of potable water for domestic use of nearby municipalities.
Recently, Drilon announced that the final contract signing with the winning contractor will happen this month.
The Iloilo provincial government assisted the NIA in facilitating the initial stages of the project such as the conduct of clearing operations and dialog with the affected communities particularly the indigenous people.
Defensor considers the realization of JRMP II as a “game changer” in the socio-economic condition of Iloilo province. (Capitol News/PN)
