All your followers are blind
Too much heaven on their minds
It was beautiful, but now it’s sour
Yes it’s all gone sour
— “Jesus Christ Superstar” written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice
NO, WE ARE not talking, at least for now, about the “Passion of Christ” – be it the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice’s 1970 rock musical “Jesus Christ Superstar”, Mel Gibson’s 2004 “Passion of Christ” or the more carnal, almost erotic (and some say blasphemous) 1988 Martin Scorsese film “The Last Temptation of Christ.”
Just to give you guys a little “striptease” we are definitely going to talk about “The Last Temptation of Christ” next week.
Most of you guys are probably aware that moi is into jazz, and jazz as a musical genre can be explained this way: it starts with a specific melody or musical notes then segues into improvisation and riffs i.e. a saxophone solo, guitar/keyboard riffs, drums or bass till they all finally come together in the end.
And that is the form and shape of this column – an improvisation of certain facts and issues coming together.
The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines declares: The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable. (Article II, Section 6)
Inviolable – never to be broken, infringed or dishonored.
Separation of church and state
The separation of church and state is a philosophic and jurisprudential concept for defining political distance in the relationship between religious organizations and the nation state.
The Philippines is not Duterte.
This was the reaction of a Catholic prelate on the declaration of President Duterte of the Philippines’ withdrawal from the International Criminal Court.
In an interview, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo said the Chief Executive cannot just set aside the country’s commitment to human rights in the international community.
“Our commitment to human rights in the international community and the international court cannot just be set aside by him,” he said.
The prelate, who is the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on the Laity, said such a decision only showed there is “basis” for the allegations against him; hence, he should be investigated.
It is notable that the three major superpowers, the United States, Russia and China, did not sign the Rome Statue Treaty. Although then US President Clinton signed it, his successor President Bush withdraw the membership of the US from the ICC.
The US government noted the major flaw of the ICC – the lack of safeguards to prevent political manipulation which is exactly what has happened to President Duterte.
Take note also that the United States of America is the not only the favorite but serves as the “final approving authority” of all “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon”, never mind the fact that the Philippines is a sovereign nation.
Hypocrisy is the contrivance of a false appearance of virtue or goodness, while concealing real character or inclinations, especially with respect to religious and moral beliefs; hence in a general sense, hypocrisy may involve dissimulation, pretense, or a sham.
From the July 31 issue of the Philippine Star:
Priest stripped of duties over rape try
MANILA, Philippines – The priest arrested by police after he allegedly tried to sexually abuse a 13-year-old girl in Marikina City has been stripped of his duties by the Catholic Church.
Msgr. Arnel Lagarejos, 55, was ordered removed from his post at the St. John the Baptist Parish in Taytay, Rizal by Antipolo Bishop Francis de Leon.
Bishop De Leon has stripped Lagarejos of his position in the diocese,’ the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced in its website.
Lagarejos was also removed as president of the Cainta Catholic College, the CBCP said.
Investigation conducted by the Eastern Police District (EPD) showed that Lagarejos was apprehended while he was supposedly taking the girl to a motel in Marikina on Friday night.
The CBCP is as quiet as a church mouse inside the confessional booth over the 800,000 schoolchildren sentence to “death by Dengvaxia” by then President Noynoy Aquino, then Department of Health (DOH) secretary Janette Garin, then Budget secretary Florencio Abad and also then Education secretary Armin Luistro, and incidentally this guy’s a priest.
Not even a “Hail Mary” from the CBCP over the 44 Special Action Force troopers or SAF sent by then President Noynoy Aquino to be ambushed and massacred by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF.
Former CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas just sold his P20-million rest house in Tagaytay to a Fil-Am couple and he reportedly owns another one, also in the same price range also in Tagaytay.
Moi is somehow confused. Is there not a “vow of poverty” somewhere along the way when someone joins the priesthood of the Catholic religion?
And the “best for last”, Leila “frailties of a woman” de Lima in a mass during the celebration of CBCP’s anniversary given the floor to say the “homily.”
Just by being herself, Leila “frailties of a woman” de Lima is violating the whole “10 Commandments” of the Catholic Church.
So there you go people, just like jazz and “Jesus Christ Superstar” the rock musical, they all come together in a great finale. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
