MANILA – Authorities have not monitored any specific terror threat at the start of the Holy Week, the Philippine National Police said on Saturday.
Still, all police officers must remain vigilant as the public take advantage of the long Roman Catholic holidays to go home to their provinces or visit tourist spots, said PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa.
“Iyong threat of terrorism so far we can say na wala tayong namo-monitor na threat from terrorism,” he said on Saturday. “But then again we are advising the public na huwag tayo masyadong mag-relax at, still, let’s be vigilant sa ating kapaligiran.”
Around 180,000 police officers will be deployed not just during the Lenten season but also the entire summer season as part of PNP’s “Ligtas SUMVAC 2018” program.
“Meaning 100 percent ng ating kapulisan ngayon ay nagdu-duty habang iyong ating mga mamamayan ay nagbabakasyon hindi lang during Holy Week but also the whole summer,” Dela Rosa said.
“Sinisiguro natin na manatiling payapa iyong buong summer vacation para naman mag-enjoy ang ating mga kababayan so naka-duty tayong lahat ngayon,” he said.
Dela Rosa also encouraged force multipliers to make rounds in their areas to deter crimes.
“Sana huwag rin magbakasyon at mag-duty rin, ikutan nila iyong mga villages, mga subdivision, kung saan karamihan ng tao ay iniwan iyong bahay. Sana hindi ito mapasukan ng mga akyat-bahay at mga salisi,” he said.
Assistance desks will also be set up at seaports, domestic and international airports nationwide.
The PNP Highway Patrol Group will also send out road safety marshals along major thoroughfares while additional mobile and foot patrols will be strategically positioned to maximize police visibility./PN
