ILOILO City – A total of 610 police personnel of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) were subjected to an unscheduled drug test.
The test was conducted on Monday at the multipurpose hall of the IPPO in Camp Sumagaysay, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.
According to IPPO director Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, the 610 personnel submitted urine samples.
The policemen were initially told to report to the IPPO for a conference. They belonged to the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), Provincial Special Operations Group, IPPO’s uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.
“We want to show that our personnel are drug-free, especially our PDEU kasi sila ang nagko-conduct ng drug operations. Dapat ma-clear sila muna,” said Tayaba.
Tayaba had himself drug-tested, too.
“Para ang ating kapulisan ay may moral ascendancy to operate against illegal drugs,” he said.
Results of the drug tests would be released soon, said Tayaba.
Flunkers would be relieved from their posts.
The drug test was part of the continuous internal cleansing in the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“There is no place in the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6)for police officers involved in illegal drugs. The PNP does not tolerate members who violate the law,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, regional police office spokesperson.
