MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte asked motorcycle groups to promote road safety by staying drug- and alcohol-free.

At the 24th annual convention of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines in Legazpi City, Duterte discouraged riders against driving under the influence.

“Do keep in mind that it is not just purely an adventure when you are on the road,” the President said.

“I ask you to promote road safety, observing traffic rules, wearing proper protection, and being – ito talaga – alcohol- and drug-free,” he stressed.

A known rider in Davao City, Duterte reminded the public of the dangers of driving under the influence.

Tutal may mga security guards man diyan sa building, iwan mo na lang iyong motor mo. If you cannot take it, do not ride,” he said.

Motorcycle riders and enthusiasts were also encouraged to support the development of tourism industry.

“While this pursuit enables you to travel … you may always take this as an opportunity to be a part of our collective responsibility to foster solidarity and progress in our communities,” said the President./PN
