MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is halfway through its drug war report, Malacañang said yesterday.
The Supreme Court ordered the PNP to submit reports on the killings of people allegedly involved in illegal drug trade.
“I’ve actually coordinated with the police to document each of the killings that they have reported and actually make sure that there is no basis to prosecute our men in uniform in connection with any of these killings. We’re half-way done,” said Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque in a press briefing.
The report on the conduct of the drug war, Roque added, will be complete either in June or July.
“(PNP Chief Director) General (Oscar) Albayalde will even be more cooperative in this regard because he really wants to promote discipline amongst the ranks of the PNP. He will hasten the process. So I foresee that in the next two or three months, we should be finished and we should come up with the report on how many should be charged if any,” the Palace official said.
Roque also stressed that President Rodrigo Duterte would stand by the police in discharge of any duties imposed by the law.
But when they commit acts outside of their official functions, the President will order their arrests, he added./PN
