WASTE your time no more, bashers. Emman Monfort himself do not believe he deserves to be playing in the 2018 PBA All-Star Week.
The Ilonggo guard of NLEX Road Warriors was heaped with criticism on social media from users who cannot believe he made it to the All-Stars.
Monfort is just focusing on the positive things that joining Visayas All-Stars brought him, he told the press after their 157-141 win over Smart Gilas All-Stars on Sunday at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City.
The native of Mandurriao district in Iloilo City said he was actually surprised with his inclusion to the Visayas team when he averages only 1.8 points on 30-percent shooting, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 11.3 minutes in the Commissioner’s Cup.
“Agree naman ako sa kanila (bashers) na hindi ako deserving,” the 28-year-old Monfort said in SPIN.ph. “But siguro sa’kin talaga blessing na nandito ako kasi mas nakaka-relate ako sa mga Ilonggo and kumbaga may na-build na akong relationship with them.”
Monfort, who previously played for St. Joseph School Iloilo, had a decent showing in his All-Stars debut with 5 points – including a two-handed dunk late in the match – along with five rebounds and six assists in 14 minutes of play.
“To be given this opportunity ’di ko pa-pass up to. Once-in-a-lifetime experience, talagang dream come true, so I’m gonna make the most out of it and try to inspire the kids on Iloilo to never give up on their dreams,” Monfort said in SPIN.ph.
Monfort disclosed that he was able to watch the All-Stars when it was held in Iloilo in 2000 and was inspired to play ball by those he then already considered his basketball idols.
He hoped he and the other All-Stars players who recently went to Iloilo inspired and motivated other Ilonggos./PN
