BACOLOD City – The pro-federalism rally in Isabela, Negros Occidental pushed for “constitutional reforms” and not “charter change,” according to Mayor Joselito Malabor.
Malabor said there are certain provisions in the Constitution that need amendments to suit the needs of local government units in the country.
Compared to charger change, these amendments are faster ways to empower the local government units so that they can deliver basic services effectively, Malabor added.
On June 2, around 6,000 people from all over Negros Occidental and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental went to Isabela to join the pro-federalism rally which was organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Present during the rally was Venus Aquino of DILG’s Special Project Management Office.
Malabor said the rally was the last pro-federalism activity of the DILG in Isabela.
He added that future DILG federalism events will be conducted in other areas in Negros Occidental, Luzon and Mindanao.
Last year, Isabela hosted a three-day convention on federalism, from Sept. 9 to 11.
Around 600 participants from several government offices and private sectors attended the convention.
