BACOLOD City – His live-in partner shot him before attempting to kill herself, police said.
The 55-year-old retired policeman Leonilo Garcia of Barangay Poblacion, Toboso, Negros Occidental sustained a gunshot wound on the thigh, a police report showed.
Garcia’s live-in partner, the 53-year-old Merlita Carredo, meanwhile, bore a gunshot wound on the chest, the report added.
Police investigation revealed that jealousy was the motive in the shooting.
Carredo used a .9mm pistol to shoot Garcia and herself in their residence around 5:45 a.m. on Monday, added the police.
Garcia and Carredo were rushed to the Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City, Negros Occidental and later transferred to the Toboso Rural Health Unit for medical treatment.
