BACOLOD City – There must be “discipline, orderliness, and maybe more effort” in traffic law enforcement in the city, according to Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia.

Leonardia said this amid the traffic congestion due to ongoing road projects and the increasing number of motorists from the city and nearby areas.

There are 92,849 registered motor vehicles in the city, Land Transportation Office records showed.

The number is way higher than that in the cities of Cadiz (about 16,000), San Carlos (about 19,000) and Himamaylan (about 21,000), and Pontevedra town (about 20,000) in Negros Occidental.

“That alone should tell us that we have a traffic problem. This is the reality,” the mayor said.

Leonardia also appealed to the public to be patient with road projects, including the drainage system installation along Lacson Street.

Traffic congestion is “just temporary,” the mayor said, stressing that these projects will help solve the city’s flood problem.

In addition, a team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will come to the city to study the city’s traffic situation, he said./PN
