BACOLOD City – Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas said her teachers are still using classrooms in buildings that violated Republic Act 6541, or the National Building Code of the Philippines.
The Office of the Building Official (OBO) has sent notices of violation to several public schools in Bacolod for failing to secure a building and an occupancy permit for their building constructions in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
“We will take the risk kay indi kami kabalo kon diin namon ibutang ang kabataan,” Demavivas said yesterday.
OBO head Isidro Sun Jr. said they sent notices to about 12 erring schools – both elementary and high school – since early July.
Demavivas said that the City District Engineering Office under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) promised her that it will process the application for the lacking permits.
City Engineer Abraham Villareal said the contractors of the school building projects were not able to apply for the permits due to its non-inclusion in the contract’s budget.
“The DPWH had already told us that they will look for the funds and will be the one to process the permits,” said Demavivas./PN
