ILOILO City – For the fifth year the City Health Office is staging a pageant that aims to showcase healthy breastfed babies.
Through the “Mom and Baby Expo” they want to show that “breastfeeding babies can lead to healthy babies,” said Dr. Jennifer T. Anceno of the CHO.
Mothers and their babies gathered at the third floor of the Iloilo City Hall on Aug. 10 for a pre-selection pageant. The final selection will be on Aug. 23.
Anceno said they hope the pageant would encourage more mothers to get into exclusive breastfeeding, especially during the baby’s first six months.
The CHO officer acknowledged that convincing mothers to exclusively breastfeed is difficult, “especially in a culture where mothers are working.”
One of the activities in line with the city government’s 81st Charter Day anniversary celebration, the Mom and Baby Expo has two categories – “Star Baby” and “Mother and Child.”
Participants in Star Baby will be judged based on their growth and development (50 percent) and the personality and charm (50 percent).
In Mother and Child, the personality of the mother and child (70 percent) and their charm (30 percent) will be checked. (PNA)
