MANILA – The Marcos family is willing to apologize to those who were hurt during the regime of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos but is not willing to admit guilt on the alleged irregularities then.

Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos said on Friday that the public must move on as the “mistakes” and “missed opportunities” in the past had hindered the country’s economic growth.

“As I’ve said on many, many occasions, for those who got hurt, for those who were inadvertently pained, certainly we apologize,” said Imee, who is rumored to be running for senator next year.

“But what I’ve heard is that there are calls for an apology tantamount to an admission which we would never do,” she added. “In the first place, I do not know what our family should admit.”

The former presidential daughter also said instead of focusing on their family, the public must turn their attention on the many problems the country is facing.

Kailangang matutunan natin ang pagkakamali,” she added.

The rule of the late President Marcos, which has spanned for 21 years, was marred with allegations of attacking administration critics, state-sponsored killings, forced disappearances, and an economic meltdown./PN
