BACOLOD City – Policemen here caught a suspected motorcycle-riding gunman at a checkpoint in Barangay 20.
Officers of Police Station 4 identified him as Tyron Barena of Barangay Taculing. His still unidentified companion, meanwhile, managed to flee.
The two men were onboard a motorcycle on the evening of Aug. 23 when cops flagged them down. The duo instead sped away, prompting the police to chase them.
Barena later accidentally fell off the motorcycle, which led to his arrest. His cohort, however, sped away and escaped police officers manning the checkpoint.
A .45-caliber pistol, two magazines of a .45-caliber gun with 12 live bullets and a tooter with traces of suspected shabu were recovered from Barena’s possession.
Barena was brought to Police Station 4, where he was detained and charged.
Last week, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) intensified its “Oplan Sita” checkpoint operation in a bid to curb criminalities in the metro.
BCPO spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico said this move is part of their campaign against those lawless elements following reports of shooting incidents perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects./PN
