Bacolod falls to Bataan in Maharlika basketball

MANILA – Bacolod Master Sardines seemed not yet adjusted with its newly acquired players.

It slumped to its second consecutive defeat in the 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Valenzuela Astrodome.

The Master Sardines were smothered by the Bataan Risers all game long on Tuesday night to suffer an 84-65 defeat that slumped them to 6-10 win-loss record ahead of their home game against Cebu City Sharks on Oct. 17.

The Bacolodnons trailed 12-3 early in the match but was able to come to within 11-12 on hits from Mark Tallo before the Risers pulled away anew to build a 19-11 lead after the first period.

In the second period, the Master Sardines struggled further on offense. They were outscored by the Risers, 20-14, en route to establishing a 39-25 halftime advantage.
The Bacolodnons was not able to come close further. Bataan pounded them with outside hits from Reed Juntilla and John Byron Villarias as the advantage reached its largest of the match at 24 points.

As the Risers moved up to 8-8 win-loss record, Bacolodnon Villarias top-scored with 25 points, including six triples, while Juntilla added 21 markers, with four outside baskets.

For the slumping Master Sardines, Tallo finished with 14 points while Jess Mar Villahermosa added 11 markers./PN
