BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental will mark in various rites today the 121st anniversary of Cinco de Noviembre in commemoration of Negros’ revolution against Spanish colonizers.
Republic Act 6709 declares every Nov. 5 a special nonworking holiday in Negros Occidental.
The provincial government will hold a program this morning at the capitol’s Social Hall.
A tribute for five Outstanding Negrense awardees will highlight this year’s celebration.
Cinco de Noviembre is celebrated to honor Negrenses’ revolt against the Spanish colonizers on Nov. 5, 1898. The uprising led to the surrender of the Spanish troops in the province and the establishment of the short-lived Negros Republic reuniting Negros Occidental and Oriental./PN
