MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts stretched its winning streak in the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals. It defeated Sibu of Malaysia, 26-24, 25-16, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Alyssa Bertolano regained her dominant ways for the Thunderbolts on Wednesday while also drawing support from Shane Carmona and Katherine Shaine Cortez to annex its fourth straight win in as many games.
Unlike in their previous games, the Thunderbolts were tested against the Malaysian-based team in the opening set. They were forced to 24-all before the Bacolodnons scored two crucial points to take the set edge.
The Thunderbolts did not allowed the Malaysian to gain ground in the second set. Bertolano and Carmona connived on offense to build an early advantage and never looked back.
Joan Marie Monares, who recently committed to play for University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in college, said the match against Sibu just exposed some of the things the Thunderbolts need to work on.
“We are happy with the win but madami pang kailangan ayusin,” said Monares. “Personally, I committed some errors in the entire match. Ganun naman talaga, bawi na lang next game.”
After closing the elimination round against Hawaii on Thursday evening, the Thunderbolts takes a break today before plunging back to action on Saturday for the playoffs round./PN
