BACOLOD City – A police officer got shot in Purok Paghiliusa, Barangay Fabrica, Sagay City, Negros Occidental. The suspect was a colleague.
The shooting happened on Jan. 2 at around 10:10 p.m. The wounded cop was Patrolman Axel Lago of Barangay Taba-ao, Sagay City.
The suspect was Corporal Elver Dela Cruz of Barangay Fabrica.
The two were actually friends and classmates way back in college, according to Major Antonio Benitez, chief of the Sagay City police station.
Prior to the shooting, the two went on a drinking binge and later on had a heated argument, investigation of the Sagay City police showed.
Lago was taken to the Lopez District Farmers’ Hospital in the city. He had a gunshot wound in the back. He was later transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City, said Benitez.
Lago is assigned in southern Negros while Dela Cruz is assigned in Zamboanga City.
