Manila – Forty-five new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded, bringing the total of cases in the country to 187, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
Based on the advisory of the DOH on Tuesday afternoon, the 45 cases was the highest single-day number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
Among the confirmed COVID-19 cases was Baliuag, Bulacan Mayor Ferdie Estrella, who announced in his Facebook page that he contracted the virus and currently confined at an undisclosed hospital.
Meanwhile, the DOH also announced the fourth patient to recover from the illness: a 31-year-old male from Negros Oriental – one of the repatriates from the coronavirus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship from Yokohama, Japan.
The Negrense was confined at the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in Pampanga upon his recovery. He was first confined at the quarantine facility at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
GATCHALIAN, BINAY, DRILON NEGATIVE
Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Nancy Binay, who have close encounters with a Senate resource person who was positive for COVID-19, both tested negative to the virus.
Gatchalian will now end his self-quarantine after learning his negative result from Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III as he also urged the public to follow the government guidelines for COVID-19.
Duque said that Binay also tested negative to the virus same with Ilonggo lawmaker Franklin Drilon, who also underwent self quarantine following his exposure to the two senators.
Presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is now being considered as persons under monitoring after showing symptoms of COVID-19.
Davao City mayor Sara Duterte Carpio said in a radio interview that Baste had fever, cough and sore throat and is now under home quarantine and being monitored by a doctor. Baste was in Manila four weeks ago./PN
