MANILA – With uncertainty hounding the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) season, the Blackwater Elite will possibly be joining anew the East Asia Super League’s Terrific 12 tourney slated from September 15 to 20 in Macau.
Elite team owner Dioceldo Sy said his team is looking forward for another shot joining one of the biggest cage meets in Asia which features big professional clubs from China, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines.
“I would be more than willing to help and support the Terrific 12,” said Sy in an interview with Spin.ph. “This will provide people some respite during this crisis and help them slowly get back to normalcy.”
Sy does not see any conflict with Blackwater’s participation in the annual tournament in the event the PBA pushes through with its Philippine Cup late this year.
“We’ve done it last year when the Terrific 12 was held at about the same time the Governors’ Cup opened shop. I think the schedule can be adjusted for Blackwater to play a game or two later on,” he stressed.
The Nash Racela-coached Blackwater has a solid roster led by the former’s ex-Far Eastern University players Rey Mark Belo, Chris Michael Tolomia, Ron Dennison, Carl Bryan Cruz and Hubert Cani.
Also in the team are Eduardo Daquioag, Celedonio Trollano, Rommel Niño Canaleta, James Sena, Shej Roi Sumang, Paul Desiderio, Marion Magat, Chris Javier, Diego Dario, Matthew Salem, Jonjon Gabriel, and rookie center Maurice Shaw.
“It’s a good team – fairly even with no superstar,” Sy said. “I believe this team has a solid core.”/PN
