ILOILO City – The restriction on alcoholic beverages here has been further loosened.
Drinking in public will now be allowed beginning June 8, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
He issued Executive Order (EO) No. 186-A, Series of 2020 for this yesterday afternoon.
The selling hours for liquor have also been extended up to 8 p.m. daily from the initial 5 p.m.
Those caught selling liquor beyond 8 p.m. face “appropriate penalties”, according to Treñas.
“For the purpose of this Executive Order, ‘liquor and alcoholic beverages’ shall refer to any drink containing a specific percentage of alcohol by volume or weight which may be in the form of whisky, brandy, gin, rum, cordial, cocktail, wine, champagne, vermouth, basi, tuba, saki, beer, ale, stout and the like,” read the EO.
The liquor ban was lifted on June 1 when this city transitioned to modified general community quarantine but Treñas initially set the selling up to 5 p.m. only. He also prohibited liquor drinking in public.
He was wary of alcohol-induced disruptions to the city’s peace and order situation, he explained.
Treñas, however, warned yesterday that the liquor ban may be reimposed should there be alcohol-induced violations of laws, without prejudice to the filing of appropriate charges in court against violators./PN
