SHARON Cuneta and Sen. Francis Pangilinan rallied behind their daughter Frankie who made a firm stand against rape culture and victim shaming.
This after Frankie called out broadcaster Ben Tulfo on Sunday because he disagreed with her views that women should not be taught how to dress up to protect themselves against sex offenders.
On Twitter, Pangilinan expressed his full support for his daughter as he reminisced his time as a student leader during the regime of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
“Ngayon alam ko na ang naging pakiramdam ng tatay ko nung isa akong nagmamartsa, nakikibaka at lumalaban na lider estudyante sa UP Diliman nung ‘80s nung panahon ng diktadura. Pasensya na Daddy, ikaw din ang nagturo sa akin na mahalaga ang pagiging lider nung bata pa ako,” he said.
“Go ahead then, @kakiep83. As my father, your Lolo Dony, sought to understand what I did then despite the risks, so it is with me and you,” he added.
Cuneta, for her part, shared the same view that women should not be told what clothes to wear to avoid being the target of rapists.
“You mean people shouldn’t count those who’ve been raped and murdered in the dead of winter in some other country, stripped of all their ‘uninviting,’ thick, layered winter clothing? My very own ‘hija,’ MIJA, whom I brought into this world, I am incredibly proud of you,” she wrote.
In Tulfo’s reply to Frankie, he said that “a rapist or a juvenile sex offender’s desire to commit a crime will always be there. All they need is an opportunity, when to commit the crime. Sexy ladies, careful with the way you dress up. You are inviting the beast.”
On Sunday, Frankie changed her Twitter name to “hija,” while Tulfo and the hashtag “HijaAko” trended on Twitter Philippines.(ABS-CBN)
