MANILA – Cebuanos Margielyn Didal and Motic Panugalinog dominated their respective divisions in the Asian Skateboarding Championships 2020 Online Skate Lockdown Video Competition following a month-long deliberation by world-class judges around the world.
The Olympic hopeful Didal, whose entry was rolling through a long-table and displaying tricks from above the kitchen sink, ruled the women’s class with a score of 8.00 points. Fellow Filipina Izza Bade, on the other hand, settled for fourth place.
“Didal did insane tricks in a quarantine setting that keyed the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist victory,” Nino Moscardi, one of the judges, wrote on the competition’s Facebook page.
The 19-year-old, meanwhile, topped the men’s (8.92 points) after showcasing tricks over a sofa, a study chair and a motorcycle.
“You don’t need a deck to do some amazing skateboarding,” judge Ant Claravall said about Panugalinog.
The event had attracted over 162 video entries. It was launched to encourage skateboarders to remain active and be creative despite being under home quarantine due to coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic./PN
