ILOILO City – Of this city’s 180 barangays, 109 have cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the city government showed. Barangay San Juan in Molo district has the most number of cases at 64, followed by Barangay Rizal Pala-Pala 2 in the City Proper with 32 cases.
“I am asking every Ilonggo who has symptoms of COVID-19 to take immediate steps to undergo testing. If you have been traced to be in contact with someone who turned out to be positive, please follow the advice to quarantine for 14 days and take the swab test for verification,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
COVID-19 can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when an infected person coughs or exhales.
Barangays San Juan and Rizal Pala-Pala 2 are currently on total lockdown to stop the virus from spreading further.
“We sent our personnel to Barangay San Juan to distribute another set of 2,000 facemasks on top of the previous 2,000 we distributed,” according to Treñas.
Addressing the city last night, he urged residents “to stay at home as much as possible” and “follow the guidelines and protocols.”
He stressed: “The decisions that all of us make about social distancing, washing our hands, wearing face shields and face masks matter just as much. We must proceed with utmost care and caution.”
Six more barangays have double-digit COVID-19 cases. These are the following:
* Bo. Obrero, Lapuz – 23
* Tanza Baybay, City Proper – 19
* Pali, Mandurriao – 17
* North Baluarte, Molo – 16
* Bolilao, Mandurriao – 11
* Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo – 11
“Everyone should be responsible. Start the discipline within ourselves. Let us do our part. Ululupod kita sa pagbato sa sini nga pandemya,” said Treñas.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea.
“We are studying additional protocols. We would request the judiciary to stop (court) hearings (at the Hall of Justice) up to Aug. 17, and no exercises (jogging, walking and zumba) at the (Iloilo) Esplanade until the said date,” said Treñas.
The city government also identified barangays with more than three cases. These are the following:
* Guzman-Jesena, Mandurriao – 9
* Calumpang (Molo), Balabago (Jaro) and Q. Abeto (Mandurriao) – 8 each
* Tacas (Jaro) and Oñate De Leon (Mandurriao) – 7 each
* Taft North and Airport (Mandurriao), Calaparan (Arevalo), Simon Ledesma, Tabuc Suba, and Dungon C (Jaro), and Tanza Bonifacio (City Proper) – 6 each
* Navais (Mandurriao) and Rizal Pala-Pala 1 (City Proper) – 5 each
* Javellana, Tagba, and Balantang (Jaro) – 4 each
Possible COVID-19 vaccines and some specific drug treatments are currently under investigation. They are being tested through clinical trials. The World Health Organization is coordinating efforts to develop vaccines and medicines to prevent and treat COVID-19.

In La Paz district:
* Jereos, 3; Baldoza, 2; Gustilo, San Isidro, Ingore, Tabuc Suba, Magdalo, Caingin, Lopez Jaena Sur, Nabitasan, and Magsaysay Village, 1 each
In Mandurriao district:
* Hibao-an Sur, 3; Tabucan, Hibao-an Norte, Calajunan, PHHC 17, PHHC BLK 22 NHA, 2 each
In Lapuz:
* Alalasan, Jalandoni Estate, Loboc, Sinikway, and Mansaya, 3 each; Punong and Don Esteban, 2 each; Libertad and Lapuz Sur, one each
In the City Proper:
* Hipodromo, 3; San Agustin, Tanza Timawa 1, Gen. Hughes, Legaspi-Dela Rama, and Ortiz, 2 each; Kahirupan, Tanza Esperanza, Monica Blumentritt, Concepcion, Sampaguita, Yulo-Arroyo, and Zamora Melliza, 1 each
In Molo:
* East Timawa, 3; North Fundidor, South Fundidor and Boulevard, 2 each; North Avanceña, Katilingban, Taal, and East Baluarte, 1 each
In Arevalo:
* Dulonan and Quezon, 3 each; Sta. Cruz, Bonifacio and Yulo Drive, 2 each; Sta. Filomena and Sto. Domingo, 1 each
Data from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6, meanwhile, showed the city with 60 new cases yesterday.
Also as of Aug. 13, the city had 484 cumulative local cases and 111 cases of locally stranded individuals, repatriated overseas Ilonggos and authorized persons outside of residence./PN
