MANILA – Negrense Jayson Panhay’s first half goal was more than enough to lift Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo past Maharlika-Manila FC in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the PFF National Training Center in Cavite on Wednesday night.
The San Carlos City, Negros Occidental-native broke the ice for his squad via conversion that hit the back of the net at the 30th minute mark.
Prior to that, chances are aplenty for Kaya-Iloilo with a header try from Simone Rota at the fifth minute and left footed volley from Marwin Angeles a minute later but were defended well by Maharlika-Manila.
Maharlika-Manila, for its part, also had their shot on goal in the opening half with the closest courtesy of MJ Libre, but his close-range attempt just kissed the crossbar.
In the second half, Kaya-Iloilo attempted to widen the lead with tries from Eric Giganto, Arnel Amita, Kenshiro Daniels, and Ilonggo Jovin Bedic, but Maharlika-Manila’s keeper was active on the defensive end.
With the victory, Kaya-Iloilo are tied with defending champions United City Football Club on top of the table with three-points each while Maharlika-Manila joined Azkals Developmental Team at the cellar.
Kaya-Iloilo will aim for its second straight win against Azkals Developmental Team at 8 p.m. on October 31 while Maharlika-Manila will tangle with Stallion-Laguna on the same day at 9 a.m./PN
