MANILA – Bacolodnon cager Fille Claudine Cainglet is hoping to achieve two dreams in her life – to become a professional basketball player and a licensed orthopedic surgeon.
Cainglet, who previously played for the University of the Philippines, was one of the 115 players who took part in the WNBL Draft Combine recently.
“Overwhelmed and surprised kasi at my age, I still made it to the draft,” Cainglet said in an interview with Spin.ph.
The 32-year-old Cainglet was part of the Lady Maroons’ women’s basketball team from 2006 to 2010.
During Cainglet’s partnership with Sai Sadorra and Fatima Tolentino, the Lady Maroons reached the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s basketball championship twice.
“It was the time of my life,” said Cainglet. “Greatest time of my life siguro. Kasi in Philippine basketball, college level na sa women’s, ‘yun ‘yung highest level. I was lucky na makapasok sa UP.”
Currently, Cainglet is in her fourth and final year of orthopedic surgery residency at East Avenue Medical Center. The Bacolodnon baller became a licensed doctor in 2015.
“That’s my priority right now. Sayang kasi when I heard na magkakaroon ng pro, I’m going to miss out the opportunity kasi dream ko talaga siya,” said Cainglet.
“Nung bata kasi ako, dream ko talaga maging doctor. Later on nung college, natagalan ako kasi nag-enjoy ako sa basketball. But after I graduated, I still want to be a doctor tapos eventually, gusto ko maging sports doctor,” she added./PN
