MANILA – After parting ways with five key players to start the year, Petro Gazz Angels have loaded up their roster anew with four new acquisitions, including national team libero Kath Arado.
In a social media post Wednesday evening, the Angels announced the signing of former University of the East Lady Warriors libero after her former team, Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, decided to take a leave in the Philippine Superliga (PSL).
The five-foot-five Arado, a native of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, was the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 Best Libero, a two-time UAAP Best Digger, a one-time UAAP Best Receiver, and a two-time PSL Best Libero.
Aside from the 22-year-old Arado, also signing up with the Angels are her former Lady Warriors teammates middle blockers Seth Rodriguez and Mary Ann Mendrez.
Both Rodriguez and Mendrez had previous stints in the PSL with the Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers and Lifesavers respectively.
Also moving to the Angels is Marivic Meneses to further shore up the middle blocker position of the Petro Gazz.
Meneses, a former standout of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, suited up for the Lifesavers and Petron Blaze Spikers in PSL. She was also named as the league’s 1st Middle Blocker once.
The Petro Gazz announced that it has two more new players to unveil in the coming days as it looks to sustain its back-to-back finals appearances in 2019.
The Angels recently let go of outside hitter Jonah Sabete; middle blockers Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag; opposite hitter Kai Nepomuceno-Baloaloa; and outside hitter Jovie Prado.
Among the five departures, Panaga found a new home in Creamline Cool Smashers while Nunag will sign with the Perlas Lady Spikers./PN
