ILOILO – To curtail the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), residents from areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) are prohibited from entering the municipality of Barotac Viejo for now.
On Feb. 9, the town’s municipal inter-agency task force on COVID-19 passed a resolution suspending the “non-essential entry” of persons from areas under ECQ.
According to Mayor Nielo “Bongbong” Tupas, some residents working in Passi City recently went home despite the component city’s ECQ status.
“May nagapauli diri sa amon nga supposed to be wala gid sang magpauli kay naka-ECQ sa Passi City. Garing may ara kami borders ng puede malutsan halin didto amo nga istriktohan namon,” said Tupas.
To ensure compliance, Tupas said he ordered a strict monitoring on the respective entry and exit points of barangays in the town.
Tupas, however, clarified that the local government unit will only allow entry for people seeking medical needs.
The local chief executive also reiterated that the move is anchored to the safety of the people.
As of yesterday, Barotac Viejo has 85 total confirmed cases of COVID-19. One of which was an active case, 81 were recoveries and three deaths./PN
