Jealousy drives man to shoot live-in partner, ‘kagawad’ in Oton

ILOILO CIty — A village watchman died while a returning overseas Filipino was injured after they were shot at a quarantine facility in Barangay Mambog, Oton, Iloilo on Friday.

Police said 55-year-old Noli Legada died of a gunshot wound on the nape while 27-year-old Mylene Peronce was shot on the chest, arms and neck.

The suspect in the shooting meanwhile was Peronce’s 33-year-old live-in partner Melchor Amegable, a police report showed.

According to police investigators, Amigable shot first Legada using a 12-gauge shotgun before doing the same to Peronce around 2 a.m. The suspect believed that his live-in partner was cheating on him with another guy.

After his arrest, Amigable admitted he had no idea why he killed the village watchman, who was just sleeping in the second floor of the quarantine facility.

Peronce was rushed to a hospital while Amigable was detained in the lockup facility of the Oton municipal police station, facing charges for murder and frustrated murder./PN
