BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson announced he would likely ask for a moratorium on the entry of travelers from Metro Manila due to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) there.
According to Lacson, he would convene other officials in Western Visayas today for updating and finalization.
The governor was also wary of the spike in COVID-19 cases in Panay Island. He said the provincial government will also monitor the situation there.
In the meantime, Lacson said, they will continue requiring all inbound travelers negative results of their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test 72 hours prior to entering the province.
“Based on [Resolution No.] 101 which allows this request, I feel that it is the best protocol to protect the province,” Lacson pointed out.
Based on the data released by the Provincial Health Office, as of this writing Negros Occidental had 7,060 COVID-19 cases – 193 were active, 6,649 recovered and 218 deaths./PN
