BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is still facing a blank wall as to the motive in the murder of Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui III, a consultant for the provincial government of Negros Occidental.
Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, spokesperson of the NOCPPO and the newly-formed Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Marton Cui, said they still do not have any lead on the identities of the assassins.
Donasco confirmed that investigators recovered several slugs of an unidentified firearm from the crime scene. As of this writing, they are still trying to identify the slugs’ caliber.
According to Cui’s friend Rolando Andutan, also the owner of Sanca Security Agency which shares an office with the slain capitol official at the Emerald Arcade in San Carlos City, it was very likely that a sniper rifle was used in the murder.
The gunman took position at least between 35 and 50 meters away from Cui’s Land Rover, claimed Andutan in an interview over Radyo Bandera Sweet FM Bacolod.
Andutan further alleged that the gunman hid inside a Starex van, and hours prior to the incident, the gunman was spotted trying to break a tree branch which he believed may have been obstructing the gunman’s sight.
He also pointed out it was possible that the gunman was actually aiming for Cui’s head, but instead hit him in the neck.
On Monday, Cui was shot dead while leaving his office./PN
