
KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan reported a seven-day average of 16 daily cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) between April 14 to April 21.
Also in the past seven days, people younger than 50 make up majority of the new cases. That age group accounted for 85 percent of new infections.
According to the Provincial Health Office, another one-day high of 40 cases was recorded on April 21.
The number of active cases also spiked to 169 from 154 the past week.
Aklan has tallied 1,476 cases of the coronavirus and 36 deaths from the disease since last year.
The capital town of Kalibo had the most number of infections at 490.
Malay had 238 confirmed cases, up from 180 cases a week ago.
Numancia also identified 127 cases and Banga had 112.
Boracay Island has also seen a record number of COVID-19 cases over the past three weeks. The active cases there climbed to 61 on April 20, according to available data from the Malay Municipal Health Office.
The island’s Barangay Manocmanoc added 18 new cases while Barangay Balabag accounted seven.
Zone 1 of Barangay Yapak still remains under surgical lockdown (until April 29).
Yapak has 15 active cases, including 12 infections in Zone 1.
Case rates have also risen especially in Manocmanoc lately, with 14 new cases in Zone 5.
Zone 4 also had 14 cases of Balabag’s 17 active cases.
Residents were reminded to always wear facemask and face shield in public, observe physical distancing and proper washing of hands./PN
