BORACAY – Zone 5 of Barangay Manocmanoc here is under surgical lockdown due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The lockdown is from May 1 to May, as ordered by Malay, Aklan acting mayor Frolibar Bautista in Executive Order No. 20 series of 2021 issued on April 30.
It was recommended by the joint Malay Inter-Agency Task Force / Malay Incident Management Team and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team.
Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in Zone 5 on April 29, according to the Malay Municipal Health Office. These pushed the total active COVID-19 cases to 28 in Zone 5.
The number of daily new COVID-19 cases in Boracay also increased by 16, with 13 cases in Barangay Manocmanoc.
Boracay Island has 72 active cases – 46 from Barangay Manocmanoc while barangays Yapak and Balabag have 13 cases each.
With the lockdown, residents in Zone 5 were advised to stay home, practice social distancing and wear facemasks at all times.
Border control points were set up in strategic areas to enforce the lockdown. People with quarantine passes should only leave home for essential needs and emergencies.
The confirmed case load of Malay, Aklan rose to 282 since the start of pandemic, including 198 recoveries and two COVID-19 deaths from Manocmanoc and Cubay Sur.
Meanwhile, the 14-day surgical lockdown in Zone 1 of Barangay Yapak which affected more than 300 families was lifted on April 29./PN
