ILOILO City – Too much inhumane activities and forced hunger was the reason of one former New People’s Army (NPA) high ranking official for surrendering himself to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The 22-year-old by his alias “Toto” surrendered to Sibalom, Antique police personnel on April 28.
He had been the team leader of a rebel group based in Tapaz, Capiz for six years before he decided to surrender.
According to Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, Toto’s brother, who was also a former member of the local communist group, persuaded him to surrender to government troops.
“For him hunger ang rason, kag kag ginatabog na sila sang mga pumuluyo. Kag ang mga illegal activities like extortion ang hindi nya makaya,’ Malong said.
61st Infantry Battalion, Brigadier General Benedict Batara said “Toto’s” surrender is a big blow to their organization.
“It was clear that the community has already realized the deceptive ideologies of the rebels. The community fear that they will be harmed by the CPP-NPA,” Batara said.
He added that Toto said some of his comrades wanted to surrender too, waiting only for the right time./PN
