ILOILO CITY – This southern city ranked eighth among areas in the country with the highest growth rates in new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections.
Based on the latest monitoring report of the OCTA Research Group, Iloilo City’s growth rate is at 19 percent from May 31 to June 5.
“Many provinces are facing a very challenging time brought by the virus. Let us do our part in ending this war for the safety of our fellows,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Dumaguete City topped with the highest infection growth rate at 206 percent, followed by Koronadal City at 96 percent, Cotabato City (62 percent), Bacolod City (56 percent), Davao City (54 percent), Paranaque (34 percent), Pasay City (29 percent), Sta. Rosa in Laguna (17 percent), and Cagayan de Oro City (12 percent).
Iloilo City has been classified by the Department of Health (DOH) as a “high risk” area for COVID for posting 82.13 percent health care utilization rate.
DOH Region 6 data (as of June 5) also showed that the city’s growth in cases (recent three to four versus five to six weeks) is 139.60 percent compared to the 35 percent in the past two weeks.
As to the average daily attack rate (per 100,000 population), the city posted 16.72 percent in the past two weeks higher than the 12.37 percent in the previous three to four weeks.
As of June 8, Iloilo City had 2,201 active cases, 217 COVID deaths and 6,322 recoveries.
This city is also under modified enhanced community quarantine to curb COVID-19 transmission./PN
