ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas urged the public to help spread facts and not fake information about vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Treñas was reacting to a viral video of a doctor discussing the “negative effects” of COVID-19 vaccines.
“I am deeply alarmed by the number of people who believe in this propaganda,” Treñas lamented.
He emphasized that “as the father of the city, I made the choice to get the COVID-19 vaccine because it is safe and effective, and I want to protect my family and my beloved Ilonggos.”
COVID-19 vaccines were studied carefully and have been approved by various medical organizations including the country’s Food and Drug Association (FDA), Treñas pointed out.
He also noted that many countries have gone back to their normal lives because of the protection they got from the vaccines.
“More than 8,000 Ilonggos have received their second dose including our medical frontliners and are now fully immunized. We have been promoting vaccines so all of us can finally stop the threat of the virus and get back to normal. We all gain nothing but safety. Help spread the facts,” stressed Treñas.

According to the Iloilo City Public Information Office, this southern city already received 41,491 doses of various vaccines against COVID-19 since March.
A total of 8,296 individuals have so far been fully vaccinated.
There were 33,195 who got their first dose, and will be scheduled for their second dose depending on the required intervals.
Treñas thanked the national government for the supplies. The vaccines earlier ordered by the city are expected to arrive this month or July.
A total of 300,000 residents and 100,000 non-residents working in this city are targeted for the city-purchased AstraZeneca doses.
The metropolis earlier received Sinovac and AstraZeneca allocations from the Department of Health.
There are two vaccination sites in the city – the Central Philippine University Gymnasium in Jaro district and the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district. The University of San Agustin here will soon be used as another site.
Other vaccination sites earlier utilized were Ateneo School Gym and SM City Iloilo, both in Mandurriao, and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in Arevalo district./PN
