Please cooperate, Roxas residents told

ROXAS City – Mayor Ronnie Dadivas appealed for public understanding and cooperation. The two-week modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) here commenced yesterday.

“Daku nga sakripisyo ang MECQ. Apang kun indi ko ini pag- obrahon, ang kabuhi naton kag sang aton mga pinalangga pwede madula,” said Dadivas.

The city has a daily average of 25 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, data from the Roxas City Anti-COVID-19 Task Force Command Center Monitoring Dashboard showed.

It also has a positivity rate of 41.41 percent, higher than the eight percent positivity rate of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Also, the city recorded 28 COVID-19-related deaths since last month.

Doctors, nurses and other medical frontliners are exhausted, and hospitals are being overwhelmed with patients, said Dadivas.

“Makaluluoy ang sitwasyon sang mga pasyenti nga kritikal ang kondisyon bangud indi na halos madapatan sang nagakaigo nga pagbulong. Kulangan katre, medical equipment kag bulong,” he added.

Dadivas lamented that many people remained “pasaway” (do not follow the minimum public health protocols like wearing of facemask and face shields, physical distancing, etc.).

Between June 1 to 15, Dadivas said, 1,051 violators were apprehended and many were repeat offenders.

“Makapila na sila ka beses sitahon kag dakpon apang liwat nagabayolar kon makatalikod ang aton mga enforcers,” said Dadivas.

The mayor also announced there would be food assistance to people displaced by the MECQ – the “Bugas para sa Taga-Roxas”.

The target recipients, among others, are employees of restaurants, salons, tourism and hospitality businesses.

Tricycle drivers, street vendors at Burgos and People’s Park, among others, would also receive assistance.

As of June 15, Roxas City had 415 actives COVID-19 cases./PN
