BORACAY – The illicit drug trade in this island is still thriving even while there’s a pandemic. A buy-bust operation netted a drug pushing suspect on June 15.
Mark Lorenz Manalo, 25, of Navotas, Metro Manila and temporarily staying in Barangay Manocmanoc w as caught by operatives of Malay, Aklan municipal police station’s Drug Enforcement Team at around 11:30 p.m.
The suspect handed two transparent plastic sachets, containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu to a poseur buyer for P900 near Sitio Bantud.
Manalo tried to escape but failed. He was placed under surveillance for months before his arrest.
Manalo, however, denied violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Barangay Manocmanoc was declared a drug-free barangay by the regional oversight committee just this June 2.
All barangays in Malay, Aklan including Balabag and Yapak in Boracay Island were also “drug-cleared” for supposedly the non-availability of illegal drugs and absence of drug pushers and users./PN
