BACOLOD City – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) died while his four comrades managed to escape from the strike operation of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) in Sitio Icugan, Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental early morning yesterday.
Authorities have yet to identify the dead rebel as this was being written.
Major Cenon Pancito, spokesperson of the 3rd Infantry Division, said a scout platoon of the 79IB encountered insurgents belonging to the NPA’s Northern Negros Front.
The 79IB recovered a .45 pistol, a .38 revolver and subversive documents at the encounter site.
Pancito said the 79IB did not sustain casualties./PN
