COVID infects 10 Janiuay cops

ILOILO – Ten personnel of the Janiuay municipal police station tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Police Major Eleazar Climacosa, police chief, two have coronavirus symptoms while eight were asymptomatic.

Climacosa said, initially, two cops exhibited symptoms on July 22 so he ordered not only them but the station’s 26 other police officers to undergo reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

Ten cops – including the symptomatic ones – tested positive for the viral disease.

Currently, the symptomatic personnel are home quarantined while the remaining are in the quarantine facilities.

Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, said he already sent augmentation force to the police station.

Gorero said there were a total of 123 COVID-infected police personnel in Iloilo province, as of this writing.

He reminded the chiefs of police not to lower their guards against the virus, and to always observe the minimum health standards./PN
