ILOILO – Crime volume in this province dropped since it was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), according to Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
Between June 1 and 15, the IPPO logged 105 crimes – 46.43 percent lower than the 196 recorded in the same period last year.
Gorero also noted that “focus crimes” dropped dramatically by 72.92 percent, from the 48 last year to 13 this year.
Road accidents, meanwhile, also declined from 84 cases to 57 this year.
Focus crimes included murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft and motor-napping.
Gorero attributed the drop to heightened police presence at quarantine control points and the liquor ban.
“Without the quarantine control points and the strict implementation of the liquor ban, the crime statistics could have been different. It could be higher,” Gorero said.
