ILOILO City – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 6 is gearing up for the opening of school year 2021-2022 on Sept. 13 this year.
On July 16, DepEd announced that President Rodrigo Duterte approved Sept. 13 as the opening date. DepEd is also set to issue a school calendar.
“We thank the President for his full support to the delivery of quality basic education for the incoming school year,” DepEd said in a statement.
According to director Dr. Ramir Barberan Uytico, director of DepEd-6, school heads, teachers and staff have been preparing for the new school year.
Still, there will be no face-to-face classes due to the coronavirus disease pandemic, Uytico confirmed to Panay News. It is also up to the school heads what mode of learning is applicable in their areas.
Schools Division Superintendents (SDSs) in the region are preparing their Basic Education Learning Continuity Plans as these are needed to be presented to stakeholders especially the parents and learners first.
Uytico has also yet to determine how many learners the region has for the new school year. Consolidation of reports is still ongoing, he said.
Uytico said he also gave time for the teachers and learners to rest after July 10, the end of the previous school year.
Meanwhile, Leonil Salvilla, DepEd-Iloilo information officer, welcomed the President’s approval.
Teachers can have more time to prepare and thus ensure an efficient system when conducting distance learning, according to Salvilla.
Current learning modalities – modules or online – would still be sustained.
