ILOILO – Police Major Rolando Araño, new police chief of Pavia town, has three main thrusts: keep illegal drugs at bay, maintain peace and order, and strictly enforce health protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
On July 19, Araño replaced Police Lieutenant Colonel Jojo Tabaloc who served Pavia in two years.
“I have to continue what Sir (Jojo) Tabaloc had started, especially in maintaining a drug-free town,” Araño told Panay News. “Also, I know this town is peaceful so we have to maintain (peace and order).”
Araño is not new to being a police chief; he previously led the Tigbauan and Tubungan police stations.
He also served as platoon leader of the 2nd Mobile Group and then became public information officer of Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) in 2017.
Before his assignment in Pavia, Araño was the chief of the IPPO’s Provincial Community Affairs Division Unit, which Tabaloc is now handling.
Araño, 44, was a resident of Anilao town. He joined the police service on Oct. 1, 1998. He completed his Criminology course at the University of Iloilo.
As a criminologist, Araño said he tried to apply for a higher position through lateral entry and later got his Police Lieutenant rank. He was recently promoted.
“To have a higher rank is not easy. Mabudlay man magpa-promote kay need mo training and interviews pero kon may determination ka wala sang mabudlay gali. For the neophyte police officers please halongi nyo inyo nga job which is to serve and protect the people,”Araño stressed./PN
