Newborn baby abandoned at bamboo grove

ILOILO City – A crying newborn baby girl was found near a bamboo grove in Barangay Napnapan Norte, Tigbauan town early Thursday morning.

According to Donnabel Tidor, her cousin Michael who was tending his cow heard a baby crying and tracked it.

He indeed found a baby girl wrapped in plastic under the bamboos just a few meters from their house.

Bal-anon gid nga bag-o bun-ag,” said Tidor, adding that the umbilical cord of the baby was freshly cut.

Tidor said they have no idea who abandoned the baby or the possible mother. As far as they knew, there was no pregnant woman in their barangay.

After Tidor and her family cleaned the baby, they brought it to the Rural Health Unit and were later referred to the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital in the neighboring town of Guimbal for checkup.

According to Tidor, they also coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and they were allowed to temporarily take custody of the child.

Tidor added that his cousin Marjun, a bachelor, was willing to adopt the baby.

Temporarily, the family Tidol named the baby “Bambie Grace”.

Tidor said they were thankful that the baby was doing well.

She also had a message to the parents of the abandoned baby: “Dapat maghimo kamo kaja, siguraduhon niyo nga tindugan niyo ang responsibilidad niyo. Nagapasalamat kami kay maayo na ang amon baby.”/PN
