ILOILO – This province recorded 439 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases on Saturday, Aug. 28, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
This was the highest number of new cases recorded here since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
From Aug. 22 to Aug. 28 (morbidity week No. 35), the province registered 2,339 cases, also the highest number of cases in a week listed by the province.
Here’s the breakdown of the 2,339 cases: Aug. 28 (439), Aug. 27 (385), Aug. 26 (332), Aug. 25 (369), Aug. 24 (267), Aug. 23 (232), and Aug. 22 (315).
Morbidity week No. 35 surpassed the listed COVID-19 cases during morbidity week 34, or from Aug. 15 to Aug. 21 which reached only 1,927 cases, as well as morbidity week 33 (Aug. 8 to Aug. 14) with 1,328; and 1,063 cases in morbidity week 32 (Aug. 1 to Aug. 7).
Iloilo province now leads the entire Region 6 with the highest number of active cases reaching 5,075, and fatalities with 595.
PHO data also showed that out of 23,223 total confirmed cases in Iloilo province, 17,553 have recovered.
In August alone (Aug. 1 to Aug. 28), there were 6,209 registered COVID-19 cases in the province.
It surpassed the cases recorded by the province in July 2021 (4,568) and June 2021 (4,446).
As of Aug. 28, the province logged 222 average COVID cases daily.
Local government units (LGUs) with high active cases were as follows: Oton (475), Passi City (254), Pavia (314), Santa Barbara (401), San Joaquin (353), Miag-ao (213), Lambunao (255), Pototan (207), Guimbal (179), and San Miguel (145).
Meanwhile, LGUs with the highest COVID-19 death toll were the following: Oton (47), Pavia (40), Passi City (30), Santa Barbara (29), Barotac Nuevo (25), Tigbauan (24), Pototan (24), Leganes (24), Miag-ao (23), and Dumangas (23).
Over the weekend, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that Iloilo province would remain under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until Sept. 7.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said he was not surprised, noting the continued surge in coronavirus cases here.
He won’t make changes to the quarantine measures in place.
The governor’s particular focus will be on the implementation of Executive Order Number 320, or the implementation of the zoning containment strategy and barangay quarantine “as COVID-19 surge response in the province of Iloilo”.
The executive order stipulates that all residents are enjoined to stay at home, except for accessing essentials or for work/conduct of business in allowed offices, establishments or industries./PN
