Got symptoms? Don’t get vaxxed yet – DOH-6

ILOILO City – People intending to avail themselves of anti-coronavirus jabs must ensure they got no symptoms prior to inoculation.

Be honest and watch out for common coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms like fever, tiredness and dry cough, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Few patients may also experience aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. Patients usually have mild symptoms that start gradually.

Symptomatic individuals are likely carriers of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, said Dr. Jocelyn Te, DOH-6 spokesperson.

To avoid possible contagion, wait for another 14 days to get the jab, Te emphasized.

Indi ka ‘ya maglagas kay may available nga gusto mo nga vaccine,” she said.

In the vaccination sites, there will be doctors screening individuals prior to getting the shots, Te added.

What if an asymptomatic person gets vaccinated without knowing he/she is positive for COVID-19?

There were no documented studies yet showing the vaccine has no effect for these individuals, said Te.

The risk of getting COVID-19 from a person without any signs and symptoms is very low, the health department earlier emphasized.

COVID-19 spreads through respiratory droplets coughed by an infected person.

Therefore, if an infected person does not cough, he/she most likely will not infect others.

However, many infected persons only experience mild symptoms. This is particularly true in the early stages of the disease. It is therefore possible to get COVID-19 from an infected person with mild cough but not feeling ill.

Kon asymptomatic ka kag nagpa-vaccine ka and kon mag-develop ka signs and symptoms, you have to report to your BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams,” said Te, adding that medical attention must be sought./PN
