ILOILO City – Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, the new regional police director, revealed his first seatwork: solving pending criminal cases in Region 6, particularly the killing of businesswoman Claire Diergos.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, ordered Dongbo to focus on the unsolved cases.
“Check, review and resolve. Ang ating investigation ay ongoing ‘yan. Ang kailangan lang ay matutukan nang husto at makakuha tayo ng dagdag na ebidensya,” said Eleazar during yesterday’s turnover of command ceremony in Camp General Martin Teofilo Delgado in Fort San Pedro.

Dongbo replaced Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, who will retire from the service this month.
The two were classmates at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Class 1990.
Dongbo was previously the chief of the PNP’s Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
Dongbo is not new to Western Visayas. He was assigned to the Bacolod City Police Office years ago.
Eleazar, meanwhile, said he is yet to receive the resolution of the provincial government of Guimaras requesting him to fast track the resolution of Diergos’ murder case.
Though he admitted he had no idea on such a case, Dongbo said he would coordinate with Miranda and the special investigation team (SIT) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office headed by Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero.
“Kumikilos naman ang ating mga pulis. Uunahin natin muna ang kasong ito at gagawin natin lahat para mahuli ang gumawa nito,” Dongbo said.
The SIT is now preparing to file the case as soon as evidences are ready.
The police refused to mention how many suspects there were, as well as their identities.
More than five witnesses also volunteered information.
Diergos was found dead inside her Montero Sports in Barangay Inangayan, Santa Barbara, Iloilo on Oct. 26.
She was believed to have been killed inside her house at Deca Homes Subdivision in Pavia town.
On the other hand, during the turnover, Eleazar commended Miranda for his service through the years.
“I know Rolly as an efficient and reliable police officer, kahit noong sa PMA pa man… 35 years ago.
Maraming salamat sa iyong mahigit na tatlong dekadang serbisyo sa bayan. We have witnessed how you lead PRO-6 on the different programs, thrust and activities of the PNP and government,” said Eleazar.
“Brigadier General Dongbo is equally hard-working. I trust that he would continue the reforms instituted and introduced to elevate… to meet the needs of the time,” he added.
Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division also graced the ceremony.
He wanted to sustain the partnership with the PNP and stakeholders./PN
