ILOILO – As part of the provincial government’s preparation against the Omicron variant of the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. considers reviving the use of face shields.
“Puede nga ibalik. Liwaton ko, kon matuod ang proposition nga ang COVID-19 maagi sa aton nga mata in the same manner it passes through our mouth, then the face shield is a good help,” said Defensor.
On Nov. 16, Defensor issued an executive order making the wearing of face shields optional in accordance with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ COVID guidelines for areas under Alert Level 2.
The province is also bracing for a possible “post-holiday” surge in coronavirus cases, according to Defensor.
Public mobility has increased following the easing of quarantine restrictions.
However, Defensor said Ilonggos must not be complacent.
Data from the Provincial Health Office showed, between Nov. 1 and Nov. 29, the province recorded 406 coronavirus cases, lower compared to those logged in October (1,970), September (7,862), August (7,596), July (4,562), June (4,443), and May (1,887).
“Magpabakuna kita. Bira-birahan naton ang pagbakuna,” said Defensor.
The province target to vaccinate 338,716 residents in the three-day “Bayanihan Bakunahan” or national vaccination days./PN
