CAPIZ — Another dolphin and a sea turtle were found dead in Panay town here recently.
The dead dolphin was found in Barangay Butacal, Panay on Jan. 23, 2022 by residents Daniel Alaban Jr. and Ryan Binondo. This was eventually reported to Capiz Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) by Elma Varnal.
Meanwhile, a sea turtle was also found dead along the beach of Barangay Navitas, also in Panay by Precy Alavaro, a resident of the said barangay, and reported it to CaPENRO on Jan. 21, 2022.
Navitas and Butacal are neighboring barangays at Panay, Capiz.
This is the second reported incident of dead sea turtles and dolphins in the province since the start of the new year.
To recall, on Jan.12, 2022, a dead dolphin was also found at Pres. Roxas, Capiz.
Municipalities of Pres. Roxas and Panay here share the same waters with Pilar and Pontevedra called Pilar Bay which is known for its rich marine resources.
CaPENRO lamented that these incidents of dead marine animals in the province sea waters are alarming especially if the cause of their deaths are human activities./PN
